Esther George, Kansas City Federal Reserve president, said The argument for policymakers to be patient amid elevated inflation has “diminished” as supply chain disruptions and strong demand fuel price pressures.
“As supply chains heal and demand eases, there is reason to expect inflation will eventually moderate, but it is also clear that the risk of a prolonged period of elevated inflation has increased,” George said on Friday at an energy conference. “The argument for patience in the face of these inflation pressures has diminished,” she added.
Her comments come after Federal Reserve chair Jay Powell urged a patient approach to US rate rises, saying it was too early to raise rates despite widespread inflation, even as the central bank said it would begin tapering its massive pandemic-era bond-buying program later this month.
George said that the Fed's maximum role of employment and rest prices were aligned and both objectives, the policy action supported the central banks.
